Q: How can High Performance Tutoring help me prepare for the ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, or AP Tests?
High Performance Tutoring offers one-on-one ACT, SAT, GRE and GMAT prep sessions at the same rate as normal tutoring. We can also help with several, though not all, of the AP tests. Most of our tutors have received specific training to teach you how to take these tests. We can assess what you need to work on, create a study plan for you, schedule regular tutoring sessions, and provide you with additional test prep resources. Your tutor can help you master the concepts on the test and teach you many proven testing strategies to help maximize your score.
By the end of this summer we will begin offering test prep classes for the SAT and ACT which will save customers money and provide students with a more enriching experience. Free ACT and SAT practice tests will also be available. Our GRE, GMAT and AP test prep classes will be ready by 2013.

Q: Can High Performance tutoring help with the LSAT or MCAT?
At this time, High Performance Tutoring does not offer any services to help you prepare for either of these exams. However, we are always working to expand our curriculum to accommodate all students in any way we can. Please contact us and tell us what you need. We take your feedback and suggestions very seriously.
Q: How much time should I give myself to prepare for a standardized test?
This will greatly depend on you particular needs. In most cases, we recommend students study intensely for these tests during the two to three months leading up to the exam. Approximately 40 to 50 hours of intense study time with your tutor is highly recommended. Additionally, we suggest that you study two hours on your own for every one hour of tutoring. It is important to immerse yourself in the material, study regularly, so that your knowledge and skills improve gradually over time. You want to be sharp as a tack on test day!
Q: How many hours per day should I study for a standardized test?
This will depend on your age, availability, patience level.
- High school students should study at least one hour per day for the ACT or SAT, though two hours is highly recommended. It is preferable to prepare during the summer months while school is out of session and you have more time to focus. We recommend meeting with a tutor three to five times per week to add structure to your study plan. Enrolling in a class that meets at least three times per week is also an excellent idea.
- College and adult students should study at least two hours per day or as long as you are able to concentrate. We recommend meeting with a tutor at least three times a week to help add structure to your study plan, clarify difficult concepts, teach you test taking strategies, and keep track of your progress.
Q: What books do you recommend to help me prepare?
Publishers that we typically recommend are Barron’s, Pearson’s, Kaplan, and Princeton Review. At the end of this summer we will begin offering ACT and SAT classes and will provide our own materials.
